Background
The Du Tiankai Special Session was conceived as a curated live programme focusing on the intersection of contemporary poetry and music. Rather than presenting poetry as a solitary, text-based practice, the event explored how spoken language, sound, rhythm, and atmosphere can reshape literary experience in a live setting.
By organising the programme as a “special session,” the project foregrounded depth over variety—allowing a single creator’s language system, emotional structure, and performative logic to unfold over time.
Description
The session featured a live performance combining poetry reading, musical accompaniment, and improvised sound elements. The format blurred boundaries between reading, concert, and performance art, encouraging audiences to experience poetry as an embodied and temporal event.
Rather than positioning the artist on a distant stage, the programme emphasised intimacy and presence. Audience members were invited to listen closely to shifts in tone, pacing, and silence—elements often flattened in printed form.
Through careful pacing and spatial arrangement, the event created a shared environment in which poetry could be encountered not only as meaning, but as rhythm, breath, and resonance.
