Background
Tai Jiao (literally “Foetal Cry”) was initiated as an experimental gathering responding to the emotional tension, uncertainty, and restlessness experienced by young people in contemporary social environments. The project sought to create a space for raw expression through sound, body, and collective presence.
Rather than adopting conventional concert or exhibition formats, Tai Jiao was conceived as a temporary, non-institutional event situated outside formal cultural venues. The focus was not on polished presentation, but on immediacy, vulnerability, and shared experience.
Description
Hosted as a treehouse-based gathering, Tai Jiao brought together musicians, artists, and participants through experimental sound, improvised performance, and informal interaction. Sound functioned as both medium and emotional signal, ranging from abrasive noise to intimate sonic gestures.
The event prioritised atmosphere and embodied listening over spectacle. Performances were loosely structured, allowing moments to emerge organically through the interaction between performers, space, and audience. Participants were encouraged to coexist, listen, and respond rather than passively consume.
Tai Jiao treated the event itself as a form of practice—a temporary community formed through sound, attention, and mutual tolerance.
